White House Calls Out Google To Discard Chinese Search Engine Project

Google censored search engine

G oogle wants to penetrate the Chinese market again and is developing a censored search engine for China that will suppress sensitive search queries and will block the content that is not allowed by Chinese firewalls.

The project named as “Dragonfly” has seen a fair share of controversy including a group of 1,400 Google employees signing a letter demanding transparency in the project. As reported by The Intercept , Google’s senior research scientist Jack Poulson also resigned due to the lack of transparency in the project.

However, Today, Google received a major setback when the U.S vice president Mike Pence called out Google in a speech and said: “Google should immediately end development of the ‘Dragonfly’ app that will strengthen Communist Party censorship and compromise the privacy of Chinese customers.”

His speech was a direct attack on Beijing as he accused the East Asian country of “predatory” economic and military practices.

Google pulled back its services from China long back after a rift with the government, and since then the tech giant is itching to enter the country again owing to the presence of a 1 billion internet users there.
