Coronavirus Hits Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Factory; Forces Shuts Down

T he deadly Coronavirus that originated from Wuhan, China, has infected more than 75,000 people and  claimed the lives  of over 2000 as we write.

It has  also hit  the tech industry hard, forcing several companies to delay manufacturing or even shut it down temporarily. Now, a Samsung plant in the southeastern city of Gumi, South Korea, has come under the grip of the epidemic.

The South Korean electronics giant  confirmed to Reuters  the shutdown of the entire smartphone production plant following a reported case of coronavirus.

In a press release, Samsung said that it had closed down the entire floor where the employee was working until February 25. Moreover, it has self-quarantined the worker’s colleagues and “taken steps to have them tested for possible infection.”

Galaxy Z Flip Production likely hit

Samsung’s smartphone production mostly happens at its Vietnam plant; however, few high-end devices are manufactured at the Gumi factory.

Sam Mobile  reports  that Galaxy Fold, as well as Galaxy Flip, are manufactured at the plant. Samsung says the impact on smartphone production is minimal. In other words, there won’t be any likely delay in the delivery of the latest Galaxy Z Flip.

The closure is currently being implemented over the weekend. However, the situation could turn worse if it extends over the next few weeks, given the extremely contagious nature of Coronavirus.

Back to work on Monday

Samsung has advised employees to wear personal masks when resuming work on Monday. On top of that, it has advised the workers to refrain from domestic travel.

This comes after South Korea recently witnessed an unusual spike in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country. The government  even raised  its coronavirus alert to the “highest level.”
