I think this is somewhat outdated now in the sense, that 64-bit OS adoption grows by the day and long gone are the days when 64-bit meant you could not run many popular applications yet. It’s turning in the opposite direction: year by year, more and more developers decide that the time has come to leave the 32-bit era behind and look forward and develop for 64-bit only, easing development and dropping some limiting factors of the 32-bit architecture. Such examples would be a few professional applications or perhaps the dolphin emulator and other software, which can benefit from 64-bit.
But still, the article is right in the sense, that you should go with 64-bit all the way, unless you have a pressing need to go 32-bit…
64-bit has been available to the avarage user since the first Athlon 64 and it took a lot of years to take off, but it did and 32-bit is in the past on the desktop.
